Special Kentucky Books Collection
The Kentucky Talking Book Library has an in-house recording studio to record books with a Kentucky connection. The Kentucky collection includes fictional stories that take place in Kentucky and Appalachia or are written by authors with a strong connection to the Commonwealth. The Kentucky collection also includes non-fiction books of Kentucky history, biographies of famous Kentuckians, Kentucky true crime stories and Kentucky sports books. If you would like more information about our Kentucky collection, please call your librarian.
You can also search the NLS online catalog or BARD for Kentucky books. To order Kentucky books please record the book number and contact your librarian with the request.
Magazines in Special Format
The Kentucky Talking Book library offers our registered users subscriptions to many magazines on digital cartridge and in Braille. We also offer audio magazines for download on the BARD website. Accessible Newspapers
The Kentucky Talking Book Library partners with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to offer NFB-Newsline®. NFB-Newsline® is a free service that gives any print disabled person access to select newspapers, magazines and TV listings using a touch-tone phone or a secure text-only website. National Library Service Music Section
Note: Recorded music intended solely for listening pleasure is readily available from stores and local public libraries - it is not available from NLS.
The NLS Music Section offers music scores in Braille, large print, and Web-Braille, as well as instructional recordings about music and musicians. The service also includes a popular series of courses to teach listeners to play instruments such as the banjo, harmonica, guitar and recorder.
