Collaborative Summer Library Program Resources

What is the Collaborative Summer Library Program?

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a consortium of state libraries and public library systems working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children and teens.

KDLA distributes information from CSLP to all public libraries across the Commonwealth.

2024 Theme:
Adventure Begins at Your Library / La aventura comienza en tu biblioteca

Every year the voted upon theme and slogan is integrated into an inclusive, literacy-based, summer reading program that is enjoyable for all ages, complete with a unified theme, program manual, artwork, resources, and professional support.

Libraries are encouraged to use whatever materials may be most suitable for their system, including anything that has been published previously by CSLP for the Summer Reading Program. Please be aware of the CSLP Rules of Use when using the CSLP materials.

Every year KDLA provides a USB drive containing the CSLP manual free of charge to every public library in Kentucky. If you have additional questions about CSLP materials, rules of use, or need assistance with your summer reading program, please contact Amy Olson, Youth Services Consultant at amy.olson@ky.gov.

CSLP Manuals

Each year CSLP creates a manual based on a slogan, theme, and artwork. The manuals contains programming for four different age groups: an early literacy program, a children's program, a teen program, and an adult program. This manual comes with an all-access code that is specific to each member-state of CSLP.

All Kentucky public libraries will receive an online access code for the CSLP manual along with graphics, line-art, and reproducible forms courtesy of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. This manual code will be sent to Kentucky public libraries yearly by your Youth Services Consultant.

Also, as a bonus, the access code not only provides access to the current year's manual and graphics, but also allows access to manuals from other years, as well.

If you do not have Kentucky's access code for the CSLP manuals, please contact your Youth Services Consultant, Amy Olson amy.olson@ky.gov

If you have any problems with CSLP's website (https://www.cslpreads.org/), please contact Melissa Hooke, melissa.hooke@cslpspreads.org

CSLP is partnering with the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) to help bring outstanding health related programming to public libraries. An Ad Hoc Committee, with members from both organizations, has been formed to create a health focused addendum to the 2019 Summer Reading Program Manual. This addendum will provide programming ideas and resources for summer reading programs, primarily focusing on teen, adult, and family programs.

This partnership is also working on the goal of connecting public libraries to their Regional Medical Libraries. By working together, we will help empower librarians to help build healthier communities.

Read Aloud 15 Minutes National Campaign believes that when every child is read aloud to every day for at least 15 minutes, from birth to age 8, we will change the face of education in our nation.

Together we will encourage all parents to visit their local library and participate in summer learning activities.
