CSLP Teen Video Challenge

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) launches the 2018 Teen Video Challenge, a national video competition for teens to get involved with reading and their public library's summer reading program. CSLP is a consortium consisting of public libraries and state library agencies throughout the United States, several islands and territories. The members of this consortium work together to provide high quality summer reading materials for public libraries to use in their summer programs birth through senior citizens. Since 2011 the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), working through member states, has been soliciting amateur videos, produced by teenagers, to serve as the official CSLP sanctioned summer reading teen videos. This competition is now in its eighth year.

Teens across the country are invited to create a 30 to 90 second video with their unique interpretation of the 2018 slogan Libraries Rock! in combination with reading and libraries. This is an opportunity for teens to display their creativity and have their ideas heard before a national audience. The winning video from each participating state, island, and territory will be named as one of the CSLP 2018 Teen Videos to promote summer reading nationwide.

The video creator’s public library will receive gift certificate from Upstart/DEMCO. Teen winners will receive a cash prize. The winners will be announced by CSLP in April 2018.

Why should teens participate?

Teens will learn so much! They’ll gain technical skills (writing/planning, shooting, editing) and incredibly important social/emotional skills (working in groups, communicating, creative thinking)! Plus—it’s fun! Here’s just a few examples of past videos from other states for inspiration:
