Storytimes for Everyone! Adults as Partners in Developing Language and Literacy in Young Children, presented by nationally renowned early literacy expert Saroj Ghoting, applies concepts from the Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library® early literacy initiative. In 2015, almost 250 Kentucky public library staff and trustees received this valuable training on supporting the early literacy development of children newborn to age five through educating parents and caregivers on early literacy concepts. Another 30 youth services librarians received this training by completing two online courses with Saroj Ghoting in 2017.
Storytimes for Everyone provides intensive training on essential concepts relating to early literacy, including demonstrations and practice in creating effective storytimes and sharing literacy tips with caregivers through asides. Some of the concepts include:
- 2 major skill areas involved in learning to read
- 5 Early Literacy Components that help children to read
- Phonological Awareness
- Print Awareness/Conventions
- Letter Knowledge
- Background Knowledge
- 5 Early Literacy Practices or Skills to help children to read

Praise for Saroj Ghoting’s Early Literacy Workshops
“Saroj Ghosting is a ROCKSTAR in the world of early childhood education and I would soooo encourage you to do whatever it takes to spend the day with her…She is a vibrant, dynamic speaker and I left her presentation revved up and excited and ready to incorporate her ideas and knowledge into my programs.” – A youth services librarian in Central Kentucky
“This daylong session was filled with early literacy in such a relevant and practical manner. Mrs. Ghoting obviously knows the research and what she shared is research based. As we worked through the day, I could see early childhood professionals from venues across the board benefiting from her presentation (childcare, (Early) Head Start, public preschool, CEC, HANDS, First Steps, families, etc.). She is a seasoned trainer/teacher/facilitator of adult learners. She mixed research and experience in a manner that was nearly captivating…I left there full of ideas and motivation for how to better prepare and provide parent education activities. There were librarians there who were so excited about really understanding school readiness and how they could plan/provide early literacy experiences for children and their parents.” – A library trustee in Western Kentucky
“I attended a session with [Saroj Ghoting] last week in Taylor County, Kentucky, and it was WONDERFUL…of all the workshops and trainings that I have attended, last week was by far the best. I have already started creating storytime plans that I know will work well in our library and community.” – A youth services librarian in Eastern Kentucky
“In additional to Saroj being a very knowledgeable and dynamic speaker, attending the session (and/or sending any member of your staff possible) will provide information that will translate to better service for families, children, early care centers, and schools within your community.” – A youth services librarian in Central Kentucky
