Measuring Wireless Sessions -- Hardware and Software Solutions


Google Analytics ( requires a captive portal or splash page to capture wireless access.  The program generates detailed statistics about a website's traffic and traffic sources, in real time or by selected intervals. 


Cisco Meraki  ( is a cloud-based management system for monitoring  wireless access.  Offers extensive reporting capabilities.


Aerohive  ( " library patrons with mobile devices fast and reliable access to Internet-based resources while giving staff the ability to monitor and continually improve wireless connectivity through the software’s reporting capabilities." 


Pfsense  ( " a free network firewall distribution, based on the FreeBSD operating system with a custom kernel and including third party free software packages for additional functionality. Through this package system pfSense software is able to provide most of the functionality of common commercial firewalls, and many times more." Reporting and monitoring is through RRD Graphs.


UniFi Ubiquiti Networks  (  "The UniFi® Enterprise WiFi System is a scalable enterprise access point solution designed to be easily deployed and managed. UniFi Access Point (AP) indoor models have a sleek design and can be easily mounted to a ceiling tile or wall using the included mounting hardware. UniFi AP (UAP) outdoor models have a form factor built to last outdoors."  Reports include tables and graphs detailing wireless access.
