Have you ever wondered what is available through the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL)? Have you heard about “those databases” but just never gotten around to checking them out? Maybe you have used it a few times or just have your favorite databases but don’t go beyond them. Then this training may be for you. This 1-hour session will explore many of the 30+ databases available through KYVL. The focus will be on what you will find in the databases and how you can use them.

Learn the ins and outs of KY Libraries Unbound, the 24/7 library that allows you to download eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming videos, and popular magazines! We’ll discuss how to search for materials, borrow materials and place holds, use the Libby app now that the original Overdrive app is being retired, and cover the steps needed to download titles.

The EBSCOhost database suite has everything for your “need to know” – 26 databases with full text access to newspapers, magazines, professional journal articles, including thousands of peer-reviewed titles, encyclopedia entries, quality, up-to-date medical information, and the list goes on and on! We’ll discuss each of the databases, and explore how to search both a single database and multiple databases simultaneously, how to set up a personal account, capture results, and arrange alerts so you can follow a topic of interest. EBSCOhost is an invaluable tool for researching just about any topic you can imagine! So join me as we take a tour of this extremely useful resource.

This training session provides an overview of KYVL’s CINAHL with Full Text database. It includes publications from the National League for Nursing, the American Nurses’ Association and much more. Database content includes information on nursing biomedicine, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines. This is a “must” class for nurses, nurse educators, allied health professionals and researchers.

JSTOR is a great resource for a wide range of materials, including primary sources, books, academic journals​, and original artwork. In addition to those resources, JSTOR’s platform allows you to create your own account and organize your research, perform text analysis on uploaded documents, and use their collections to make new connections in your research.

Intended for high school libraries, MAS Ultra contains full text for top magazines including Car and Driver, Congressional Digest, Economist, National Geographic, Popular Science, Science News, Sports Illustrated, Time, and much more. Middle Search Plus is designed for middle school libraries, offering full text for popular middle school magazines such as Astronomy, Field and Stream, Motor Trend, Newsweek, People, Popular Mechanics, and more.

Both Primary Search and Topicsearch are part of the Kentucky Virtual Library’s collection of research databases. Primary Search contains full text for popular children's magazines, easy-to-read encyclopedic entries and a vast image collection. You can use TOPICsearch to explore current events, social, political and economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics. It contains full text for more than 96,000 articles from diverse content sources
