Interlibrary Loan

"Old and New in Transportation" (WPA Photo Collection, KDLA)Materials from the State Library's collections are loaned upon request to libraries of all types, not only in Kentucky, but also to libraries across the nation and the world.

If you reside outside of the Frankfort area, you can use your local library's Interlibrary Loan program to obtain materials found in the State Library's circulating collections. When submitting a request for an item to your local library, make sure to include the author, title, and catalog number. Depending on your library, sometimes you will be charged for the shipping of the item; however, the State Library does not charge for use of its collections.

Employees of Kentucky state government agencies may request items directly from the State Library. For more information about this program, visit the "Interlibrary Loan Services to State Government Employees" page.

The State Library's Interlibrary Loan program also serves as a referral borrowing agent for Kentucky libraries whose borrowing capabilities are not as extensive. For holdings, use the KDLA Online Catalog. Policies are listed in the OCLC Policies Directory. KDLA is affiliated with OCLC, KLN, SoLine, SO6, LVIS.

In all cases, the State Library's Interlibrary loan service follows standard policies and procedures set forth in the National Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States, Federal Copyright Law, and the policies of individual lending libraries.
