Kentucky Resource Sharing Program

KDLA supports all types of libraries in the Commonwealth in their missions of providing information to their customers: the citizens. This is accomplished by supporting basic resource sharing programs and partnering and working closely with the Kentucky Virtual Library.

Component Services of the KY Resource Sharing Program:

OCLC Interlibrary Loan and SOLINET Affiliate Members

The overwhelming majority of libraries in the Commonwealth are Affiliate Members of SOLINET. This means that they are users of OCLC Interlibrary Loan services under the auspices of KDLA. In our role as the Kentucky Group Administrator, we have since 1990 paid all fees associated with OCLC Interlibrary Loan activity for all Kentucky SOLINET Affiliate Members. These fees include such items as all types of Searches; Regular and UL Display Holdings; ILL Request and Request Review; ILL Referral and the Internet Hourly Access and Support Fee.

For more information about this aspect of the Program, contact 800-928-7000 ext. 230.

Kentucky OCLC Database

The backbone of any resource sharing program is access to ownership; e.g. holdings information so that libraries will be able to accurately target their ILL requests. Because most libraries in Kentucky are not cataloguing members of OCLC, KDLA has been facilitating the loading of machine readable bibliographic records from integrated library management systems for these non-OCLC cataloguing libraries to the OCLC database since 1990. What this means in fiscal terms is that KDLA has solicited and/or accepted records from libraries then paid OCLC for their analysis and profiling activity and the subsequent per record fee as they have been loaded to the system.

To contribute records or update holdings, contact 800-928-7000 ext. 230.

Kentucky Union List of Serials

Accurate and complete holdings information about magazines is extremely important to resource sharing efforts and KDLA has been involved in the support of the Kentucky Union List of Serials for decades. KDLA provides a subgrant to the University of Louisville which pays KULS’ staff salaries, fees associated with their OCLC work, travel, equipment and supplies as necessary.
