Job Duties:

Under the moderate or limited supervision of the Manager of the National Instructional Materials Access Center, the NIMAC Metadata Specialist position will be the first contact for NIMAC authorized users and publishers with questions and concerns about the protocol and procedures for accessing the NIMAC. Special note: The NIMAC is a new initiative under the direction of APH.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create and modify metadata describing NIMAS files.

2. Set up and monitor user and publisher accounts.

3. Perform quality control and provide feedback to colleagues, and others as directed

4. Provide support, including resolving access problems, via telephone, e-mail or regular mail to publishers, accessible media producers and authorized users.

5. Assist in developing and providing training/tips to authorized users.

6. Perform additional duties as required.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

-Library or Information Science Degree (MLS or MLIS) preferred but substantive and related coursework will be considered.

-Substantial and verifiable work experience in cataloging or other metadata creation may substitute for the above-referenced degree.

-Must hav online database experience, insluding metadata creation.

-Must have working knowledge of FRP and WinZip or other file compression application software.

-Must have demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the exercise of good judgment in dealing with customers, clients or library patrons.

-Must be a quick study, detail oriented self-starte, not only able to work independently but also as a member of an evolving team.
