The State Advisory Council on Libraries

 

The State Advisory Council on Libraries was created in 1971 and authorized in 1976 under the terms of KRS 173.810. The Council was established to advise the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives on federal and state library development issues. The Council is a 21 member body composed of:

  • four members representing public libraries;
  • two members representing school libraries;
  • two members representing college or university libraries;
  • four members representing special and institutional libraries;
  • two members representing library users with disabilities; and
  • seven members (at least one of whom shall represent disadvantaged persons) representing library users.

The Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky appoints all Council members and from the membership selects a chairman to serve for a term of two years.
