Tours of KDLA

The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives welcomes tour groups. The following guidelines and information will help you when planning your KDLA tour. For a descriptive list of available tours, please take a look at our "Tour Application."

We also invite you to tour the full KDLA web site for complete information about our programs and services. The following guidelines and information will help you when planning a KDLA tour:

Pre-trip Planning

KDLA is located at 300 Coffee Tree Road, adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Frankfort, Kentucky. Directions may be found on the Visitor Information page of this website, or may be sent to you upon request.

Tours are given between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excepting state government holidays and scheduled agency events. There are no fees for these tours.

Please send the Tour Application at least two weeks prior to your desired tour date. Once we receive the Tour Application at KDLA, we can make the final arrangements for your tour. If your group needs special assistance, please let us know before scheduling your tour.

Your tour interests (see the Application for a description of tours offered) will determine the amount of time you spend at KDLA. The Questionnaire asks for the maximum time available for your group's visit, so your time at KDLA is spent to the best advantage.

Your group will be sharing the public areas of KDLA with other library and archives patrons, so appropriate behavior is appreciated from all tour members.

On Arrival

Parking for guest vehicles is appropriately marked.

Your group should enter through KDLA's front door. Once in the lobby, the group leaders should contact the lobby reception desk immediately. You will then be met by a tour leader who will give a brief welcome and orientation. If your group numbers more than 20 individuals, they will be divided into smaller groups for the tour.

During Your Visit

If you have questions or need assistance during your tour, please ask any staff member. All of us want to make your visit a success!

Please...

If your plans change, let us know as soon as possible so that we can make tours or programs available to other groups.

Research Groups

Groups planning a visit to use the State Archives collections are encouraged to contact the Archives Research Room (ext. 347) before arrival. Research archivists may be available to speak to groups regarding use of the collections, indexes, and electronic resources. If the group has a special area or topic of study, staff will be able to prepare more effectively if notified of the group's arrival ahead of time. Staffing constraints may limit the amount of time and availability of research archivists to assist your group.
